It’s no secret that Campbellsville University plays a major role in shaping the minds and futures of the thousands of students that attend there each year. What may not be as well known to the general public is just how in-tune the university is with aligning its programming to meet the needs of business and industry.

Recognizing the need to offer a more comprehensive and streamlined portfolio of professional certificate options to adult learners, Campbellsville University’s Virginia Ponser Flanagan Technology Training Center (CUTTC) launched CU Expand in March 2019. CU Expand offers certificates in 20 different program areas, each supporting critical demands in today’s workforce.

CU Expand offers certificates in 20 different program areas, each supporting critical demands in today’s workforce.

Course offerings can be completed in as little as six months, if not sooner. Unlike a typical bachelor’s degree, there are no general education requirements that must be met before completion of the certification’s requirements and all courses are available online.

“Whether an individual is looking to upgrade skills in his or her current field or looking to train in a new area, the CU Expand professional certificates can help develop career tracks,” said Jason Roop, director of the Technology Training Center. “Our programs are designed with the needs of working adults in mind, with evening and weekend class sessions and at a moderate cost.

Due to the certificates being fully online, they can be started at any time and completed at the student’s own pace. When someone completes the required courses for a certification, they receive a credential showing they possess in-depth expertise in their specialized field. “The certificates offered through CU Expand will allow students to gain credentials that will help them stand out in a competitive workplace,” added Roop.

Twenty professional certificates are currently being offered through CU Expand, including: Entrepreneurship; Cybersecurity; Human Resource; Leadership; Managing Change and Resolving Conflict; Negotiation; Nonprofit Management; Sustainable Management; Agile Project Management; Data Analytics; Online Learning; Business Communications; Creativity and Innovation; Finance Essentials; Digital Marketing; Certified Global Business; Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Exam; Six Sigma Black Belt Certification Exam; Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification Exam; and Professional (CGBP) Exam Prep.

CU Expand programs are accredited through the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Project Management Institute, Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), Continuing Professional Education Provider (CPE) and Online Marketing Certified Professional (OMCP).

“In just the first six months of launching CU Expand, we’ve had more than 30 students enroll in various courses,” Roop said. “We know the demand is there and that it will only continue to grow. We hope to further expand upon our program offerings as a result of our ongoing dialogue with students and business.”
